Our program this week will feature Dr. Suleman Lalani, our Texas State Representative. We will have a joint meeting with the Exchange club for this program.

 

Dr. Lalani will speak about the Texas Legislature’s and Governor’s adoption and signing of the new law about property taxes following the most recent specially called legislative session. 

 

Dr. Lalani has been in private practice in this area for over two decades.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He has served in leadership roles in numerous professional, medical, faith, and other organizations.

Carolyn Tarver, a beloved local philanthropist whom Sugar Land Rotary supported for many years, has passed away.

 

Some of you may not know Carolyn.  She founded Project SMILE to provided Christmas gifts for needy Fort Bend Children.  This grew into Santa’s Exchange, which serves thousands of children each year.  She has also continued to provide gifts to children who were not enrolled in Santa Exchange.  She also founded the non-profit Bethel Ministries to provide community services.  Bethel provides back to school supplies each August.  Sugar Land Rotary has supported all of these projects.  There is more about Carolyn at:

What: School supplies are arranged on tables before event and volunteers create supply packages for individual students into using grade specific lists.  The event is well organized and goes quickly.  Sugar Land Rotary, other civic clubs, and churches volunteer for the event. Wear your rotary colors (shirts, hats).

 

Calendar distributed on lunch tables last week needs date corrected.

Join us Wednesday, August 2nd from 4pm to 6pm for our 2nd Annual Stuff the Bus at Brookdale First Colony to help us give back to Fort Bend ISD

 

Last year, we were able to raise over $2000 worth of donations for Fort Bend ISD’s Shared Dreams program and we look forward to you helping us make this an even bigger and better event this year. With a donation, you will be entered for a chance to win one of our fabulous door prizes. Snacks and beverages will be provided as we celebrate the back to school season!

 

If you are unable to attend the event but would like to contribute, we welcome you to drop school supplies off at Brookdale First Colony or Brookdale Sugar Land. You may also order from the QR code and have supplies shipped straight to Brookdale First Colony.
