Program - Debbie Elder, Motivating People

Our speaker this week, Debbie Elder, is a national leader in motivating people to be peak performers. In September 2013, Debbie became a best-selling author. She co-authored a book with Brian Tracy titled Against the Grain. In June of 2014, Debbie’s second book Share Your Message with the World achieved international best seller status. Debbie became the owner and Head of School of Shady Oak Primary School in August 2014; this school serves grade s 1 – 5 in Fort Bend County, Texas. In addition, she is a certified Nurtured Heart Approach Trainer. In October 2019, Debbie recorded her Ted Talk titled "Your Child Is Redundant."

Debbie is a passionate international speaker who edutains her audiences. She loves to share her incredible knowledge in simple steps that can be implemented immediately. Her easy-going style is loved and accepted by audiences of all ages. She has experience speaking to students, teachers, corporate America, entrepreneurs, and people who want to be successful at life!

October Rotarian of the Month – Courtney Hochhalter

The Sugar Land Rotary Club Rotarian of the Month for October 2023 is a very valuable and hardworking member of our club. We were fortunate to have this Rotarian of the Month join our club in 2019. He was sponsored by Raleigh Bailes. He is passionate about serving our community and can always be counted on to help out with the club's community service projects. He participates in our social events and loves to have fun with his fellow Rotarians, brainstorm ideas on new projects, and in general help out wherever he can.

He went to school in Bismark, North Dakota to become a medical professional at the Medcenter One College of Nursing and became a CSA - Certified Senior Advisor in 2020. After that he received his MBA from University of Phoenix - while working at Philips! (Which I believe is where he met his wonderful wife, Divvya! Then in 2017 he made the leap of faith and invested in his own business from the franchise Right at Home, right here in Sugar Land. Veterans Day Lunch Thursday, Nov 9

This year's Veteran's Day Appreciation Lunch will again be a multi-club event held at the Rosenberg Civic Center. The event will be on THURSDAY NOVEMBER 9th, with registration starting at 11AM.

A flyer with full details will be distributed soon. In the meantime, please RSVP directly to me via email/text so that we can account for seating and lunch. Be sure to include any Veteran friends and family members that you will bring with.

Keep Sugar Land Beautiful Tree Planting Nov 4

As a reminder ***PLEASE NOTE THE CUT OFF DATE TO REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT IS THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21st***

I am pleased to invite you to a Rotary project for "Keep Sugar Land Beautiful" to support our beautiful community. This event will take place on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH, 9:00am-11:00am at Cullinan Park Conservatory, 12414 Highway 6, Sugar Land, TX 77478

The email headed “Keep Sugar Land Beautiful Tree Planting Event” has a Trees Across Sugar Land Volunteer Waiver/Registration Form attached. Please fill it out and return to me by SATURDAY OCTOBER 21ST. I will combine and submit them all to the City as one e-mail. Please do not send them directly to the City.

Here is some background information on the project and the history of the project:

Trees Across Sugar Land Volunteer Waiver/Registration Form

Saturday, November 4, 2023: 9 am – 11 am

Cullinan Park (12424 Highway 6 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, 77478)

Please dress appropriately for planting: long pants, long sleeves, and closed toe shoes

Sunscreen and insect repellant highly recommended -- Bring a shovel (if you have one) with your name on the shovel

Please bring your own water to keep you hydrated! We recommend a reusable water bottle.

A short history:

Trees Across Sugar Land. KSLB secured a donation of 5,000 native hardwood saplings in 2007 and created the first Trees Across Sugar Land! To date 3,915 KSLB volunteers have donated 10,903 hours to plant 50,228 native hardwoods during our annual events!! We are very appreciative of our volunteers and our partnerships with the City of Sugar Land, community organizations, schools, and individuals that contribute to the success of this program.

I'm very passionate and excited about this project. Sugar Land has beautiful parks, and being part of making them special is so key to more of the community using them.

Rotary Golf Game Nov 14

We can play a maximum of 8 players.

Good Afternoon. This is your invitation for our club golf game to be played on 714 November September at Riverbend Country Club. Tee time is between 8-9am. Cost is $50 per player, paid on site.

We have changed our invitation rules to include past club members and spouses to play also.
So any club member or better half or past member or past member better half are offered to play with us.

We are limited to only 2 teams or 8 players max. The first 8 to sign up will be put on the list to play. We will play a scramble format and try and balance the 2 teams as much as possible.
